The apex predator of India’s jungle the tiger is revered yet sadly for years was hunted almost to extinction as a trophy and for the curative aspects of its many parts for human ailments. Kanha National park also famous for its tigers has played an exemplary role in the conservation of the barasingha (swamp deer) hunted mercilessly as a trophy by hunters. The earliest portrayal of the tiger in India comes to us from the Indus Valley Civilisation from where a 2,500 BC seal featuring a tiger was found.
